“Cityscape (Brooklyn Bridge)”

48″ w x 14″ h, copper and enamel sculpture (signed) (1966)
This sculpture of the Brooklyn Bridge was in my grandparents’ house forever (my dad remembers it from when he was a kid, so it’s likely they were the original owners). It’s dated to 1966, which makes it one of the earliest pieces to come out of the C. Jeré workshop. Fun fact: “C. Jeré” actually is just a compound nom de plume of the two founding artists — Curtis (Freiler) and Jerry (Fels)!
I’m not typically one for sculpture, but unsurprisingly I make an exception for bridges. This one is an outstanding mid-century modern style that still holds up, and its length means it holds down an otherwise very difficult bit of wall to fill in our kitchen.
