“Work from Home (Monoprint #2)”

20″ x 20″, Stenciled linen pulp paint monoprint, on cotton base sheet (2010)
The first lot I’ve ever won at a (real) art auction (and from Christie’s, no less!), one looks at this work and immediately thinks “pandemic.” In actuality, it predates COVID by a decade. It was created during a residence at Dieu Donne where artist Matt Keegan was inspired by a Spanish-language subway ad offering the chance to “Trabaje Desde Casa”.
Much like this print, our family’s work-from-home history well predates the pandemic. My wife has worked from home for most of her career, so we consider ourselves to be work-from-home elder statesmen (compared to you post-2020 Johnny-come-latelies). It feels almost prescient in a way, when a hitherto distinctive part of your life suddenly becomes part of everyone’s everyday life.
